New job, new blog December 2, 2008
I’ve crossed an important thresh-hold; two weeks ago I started my first job in my chosen career. I’m now the YA librarian at one of the city of Rochester Public Libraries. I’m very scared. And excited. Scared because I’m filling a position that has been empty for almost two years – the collection’s not in the best shape. Not to mention that I’m the only full-time librarian in the branch, so I’m basically in charge of everything. I’m finding that very challenging, and just down-right annoying. I want to stay in YA-land! I have no interest in adults, that’s why I specialized! But I can’t complain. Jobs are scarce these days, as we all know. And I really am thrilled to be an honest-to-goodness, working librarian. Even as it becomes tragically apparent day by day that my suspicions that grad school really has nothing to do with the actual job are totally true. It’s all about on-the-job training people!
So as this year draws to a close, a year in which I was basically a defunct blogger, I’m embarking on a brand new adventure, and I’m taking this partially new blog with me! If nothing else, my pleas for help will keep the posts coming with reasonable regularity.
